“A Rose for Emily” Character Analysis

“A Rose for Emily” In the story “A Rose for Emily”, Emily is the primary character. Her character analysis includes what other individuals thought of her, what she said and did, what the narrator informs us about her, and how the setting reflects her character. Emily was born into a household of terrific wealth and abundant past. With Emily being highly concealed by her daddy, she needed to deal with lots of limitations in her life leading to the change of her character.

Yet as a person Emily reacts to her situation in her youth filled years like any kid would during this time. Emily was booked and had the utmost respect as might be seen in this example “So when she got to be thirty and was still single, we were not delighted exactly”. Although this does not specify her obedience, it specifies how her parents were always expecting a lot from her. Emily had quickly turned into a distinguished lady that her dad always wanted her to be. Soon Emily began to look at the world on a various level.

To Emily, “ordinary” or “lower class” men were something that she was not utilized to. After some time Emily came back as what individuals of the town would state “a lady, with unclear resemblance to those angels in colored church windows- sort of terrible and serene.” It is this image that reveals the reader that her daddy’s death was another event that changed her yet once again. This time it was into an independent female with future values. Emily however would not let the truth that she was a ladies bring her down into the world of the bad.

She would hold her direct high and work to make a living and not live by someone else’s support. In the eyes of the townsmen, she was still considered as “Poor Emily” but this did not prevent her at all and enabled her to hold her direct greater. Later Emily learns that Homer did not want to dedicate to her as their relationship went on. This occasion is another altering point in Emily’s character and reveals that despite the fact that she was the last Grierson, she was still going to imitate a true worthy woman and get what she wanted.

In conclusion, Emily is plainly not a sick or twisted lady however a lady that is defending her right to live and be happy as much as she can. It is the damage that was caused upon her that exists within her kind the minute her father passes away till the minute that Homer Barron leaves that makes her a lady of strong wits and beliefs. Her fathers influence is what made her a company lady and her pursuit of joy.
