A Rose for Emily paper

Devon cook English 102 4/18/ 13 Paper 3 “Importance” the practice of representing things by signs, or of investing things with a symbolic meaning or character. I chose to utilize this particular form of figurative language to compare the stories of the yellow wallpaper and a rose for Emily. I chose to utilize the house from the rose for Emily and the wallpaper from the yellow wall paper as my two signifying comparisons. The yellow wallpaper represented discomfort, death, psychological abuse, solitude, suffering, and the filling of being caught.

The house in the rose for Emily represented death, unhappiness, discomfort, abandonees, suffering, and isolation too. After reading both stories I broke every one down and began to compare the two. After the reading I learned that both main female characters in both story were looked at as having some kind of psychological problem from the outdoors looking in on them as people. In the yellow wall paper she was required to go to a summertime house and resided in a room in a home that pretty much drove her nuts.

Emily on the other hand was incredibly enamored with a male that didn’t want to marry her and it drove her insane that she decided to eliminate him and keep his body in her house so that he could never ever leave her, and still manage to have a romantic relationship with a dead guy. These 2 females in their own method felt some type of abandonees I feel like in the yellow wallpaper she felt as though her other half abandon her, similar to in a rose for Emily she felt a because of abandonees when the guy she wanted turned her down. “The yellow wallpaper” represented death and power failed.

In my viewpoint him requiring his spouse to go to the summer season house triggered her conditions to aggravate and she began to see images of faces in the wallpaper of her room. She began thinking the images are of women sneaking behind the paper and she can not help however to focus on them. She tried to inform her hubby, he didn’t listen and with time she sees the images a growing number of frequently. In the end, she locks herself in her room and detach the wallpaper. The wallpaper was her showing her discomfort and suffrage, and how she pretty much lived however truly dead.

Him managing her triggered everything he thought he was trying to repair. “Your home”. The rotting home is a sign for Miss Emily’s physical and emotional decay, and her psychological problems, your house and Miss Emily are one in the same; both become rotting symbols of their passing away generation. Miss Emily was dead but living because she had nothing to live for whatever she loved had actually been taken from her or deserted her. So your house represented her pain and since of feeling dead, and how Miss Emily killed Homer Barron so that he might never ever leave her.

She had actually already experienced her dad dyeing and leaving her. Then the town’s people took him away and buried him. She had the ability to keep her criminal offense of killing Homer a secret and she kept him locked up in the room for forty-years. “Importance” the practice of representing things by symbols, or of investing things with a symbolic meaning or character. Emily and Jane both used symbols to represent them in both stories. Both signs told their stories for them, and informed what they were going through or what they had actually gone through. That’s why I chose to compare a rose for Emily and the yellow wallpaper.
