A Rose for Emily paper
Devon cook English 102 4/18/ 13 Paper 3 “Meaning” the practice of representing things by signs, or of investing things with a symbolic meaning or character. I decided to utilize this specific kind of figurative language to compare the stories of the yellow wallpaper and a rose for Emily. I chose to use the house from the rose for Emily and the wallpaper from the yellow wall paper as my 2 representing contrasts. The yellow wallpaper represented pain, death, mental abuse, loneliness, suffering, and the filling of being trapped.
Your home in the rose for Emily represented death, unhappiness, pain, abandonees, suffering, and loneliness also. After reading both stories I broke each one down and began to compare the 2. After the reading I discovered that both primary female characters in both story were taken a look at as having some type of mental issue from the outdoors looking in on them as people. In the yellow wall paper she was forced to go to a summer house and lived in a room in a home that pretty much drove her nuts.
Emily on the other hand was madly fascinated with a male that didn’t wish to wed her and it drove her crazy that she chose to kill him and keep his body in her house so that he might never leave her, and still handle to have a romantic relationship with a dead guy. These 2 females in their own method felt some type of abandonees I feel like in the yellow wallpaper she felt as though her partner desert her, much like in a rose for Emily she felt a given that of abandonees when the man she desired turned her down. “The yellow wallpaper” represented death and power gone wrong.
In my opinion him requiring his other half to go to the summertime home caused her conditions to get worse and she began to see pictures of faces in the wallpaper of her room. She began believing the images are of females sneaking behind the paper and she can not help however to focus on them. She tried to inform her spouse, he didn’t listen and with time she sees the images a growing number of often. In the end, she locks herself in her space and detach the wallpaper. The wallpaper was her revealing her discomfort and suffrage, and how she pretty much was alive however truly dead.
Him controlling her triggered whatever he believed he was trying to fix. “The house”. The rotting house is a sign for Miss Emily’s physical and psychological decay, and her mental problems, your house and Miss Emily are one in the exact same; both end up being rotting symbols of their dying generation. Miss Emily was dead however living because she had nothing to live for whatever she liked had actually been drawn from her or abandoned her. So the house represented her pain and because of sensation dead, and how Miss Emily killed Homer Barron so that he might never leave her.
She had already experienced her father dyeing and leaving her. Then the town’s individuals took him away and buried him. She had the ability to keep her crime of eliminating Homer a trick and she kept him locked up in the space for forty-years. “Importance” the practice of representing things by signs, or of investing things with a symbolic significance or character. Emily and Jane both used signs to represent them in both stories. Both symbols informed their stories for them, and informed what they were going through or what they had actually gone through. That’s why I decided to compare a rose for Emily and the yellow wallpaper.
