As i lay passing away Journal Entries

!.?. !? As I Lay Passing away journal entries By: Roberto Boponti Cash My first impression of Cash was that he was a hardworking male. He spent the majority of the day working on the casket for his mother. He seemed very generous as he worked constantly on his mother’s coffin. Although the reality that he was developing the casket right outside his moms window was somewhat troubling to me. I would not want to see a male develop my casket. To Cash this casket was his last present to his passing away mother and he wanted it to be perfect witch is why he would hold up every piece to reveal his mom to make certain it was ideal.

Cash’s significance was that he was the one to develop the casket. Without him there wouldn’t be a coffin to carry their mother in to the tomb. Also Money appeared to be the voice of factor in the household and i feel as if he tried his hardest to hold the family together under difficult situations. His selfless actions were likewise the reason the family made it to their moms tomb. Money a really logical thinker and direct kind of man. his stories in the book were primarily really logical, rather than the emotion filled stories of the other characters.

He did not care that Jewel was only his half bother and appreciated and kept Dar’s tricks. Many of his brother or sisters saw his act of building the coffin as a mean and harsh thing, But Cash though oh the coffin as his last present to his mom, so he desired it to be ideal. Apart from being selfless he also seemed to be stubborn. s he continued despite the fact that he had re-broken his leg. This led to him eventually not having the ability to walk anymore, although he might have easily saved his leg by going to a healthcare facility and letting the rest of the household cary on with the task of taking their mother to her grave.

Among Cash’s redeeming qualities is his altruism. He worked all the time, through the cold and the rain to make his mom’s coffin best. He likewise struggle through the discomfort of his broken leg in order to assist get the coffin to the graveyard. He also shows a good deal of perseverance as he deals with his broken leg through the journey, that extended longer than predicted. He is also patient with his more youthful sibling Darl, as he badgers Gem. Though Money not does anything to stop this he does not get mad at Darl. Cashses relationship with Gem is far better than anybody else has with Gem.

He seems to not be troubled by the fact that Jewel is only his half sibling, and accepts him as part of the household. Although he does refrain from doing much to assist when Gem is being bullied by Darl, he never ever tries to injure Jewel physically or psychologically. Cash does not change dramatically at all during the course of the book. The only change is that he breaks his leg and suffers throughout the latter part of the book. Money is by far my favorite character at the end of the book. He was the only one who believed logically about the circumstance. He suffered a great deal to get his mother to the graveyard.

Dewey Dell My impression of Dewey was that she was a dumb blonde. She got fertilized out of wedlock, which in this time period appears to be a dreadful thing to do. She also seems ready to use up the role of being mother of the family after their mom passes away, and although she truly does not wish to she appears to have actually accepted that fact. I do not truly like her at all since she just appears to me to be not really clever and sorta just does what other people state she needs to do. Dewey importance in the book is that she acts as the mom as the household after Addie dies.

She is the one to tidy and cook for the household, and also take care of the youngest members. Her life appears to essentially be over because from now on al she will be able to do is look after the household. Another thing she assists with is the capture an arrest of Darl. She assists the police by getting on leading him and clawing him, which made me have a little more regard for her but not much, I still do not like her. Dewey totally frown at shaving the infant, much like Addie does. It appears to be that in this book children represent unhappiness and the end of pleased times, ecause for the rest of your life you need to invest it looking after the baby. It seemed that her main factor for accompanying the family was to get an abortion, which didn’t work out as prepared since she simply wound up having sex with the MacGowan at the pharmacy. Dewey likewise feels obliged to look after the household although she actually does not wish to. Although she will she appears to never ever do it out of love for her household but out of a feeling of commitment. The relationship in between Dewey and Layfe is extremely unusual. I feel as if Layfe does not enjoy Dewey like Dewey loves Layfe.

This is revealed when Layfe gives Dewey 10 dollars for an abortion. The just excellent quality I saw in Dewey was the fact that she wanted to take automobile of the household. She made certain the family was kept fed and whatever stayed in order. Although she appears to be self-centered in a way, she still has a feeling of commitment to her household which keeps her from fleing and keeps her doing all the “womanly duties” of your home. Apart from that she simply seems to be a selfish dumb lady with no other redeeming qualities. The only other good thing she did in the book was assist in the capture of Darl.

Which perhaps shows that she has a little regard for authority, however aside from that she is till a dumb self-centered lady. I did not see any modifications in Dewey throughout the book. At the end she was still the exact same dumb selfish lady she remained in the asking. The only thing that changed was that now she had a household to look after. She has also not yet got an abortion and will most likely continue to try to find one. I do not like Dewey quite at all. She is so dumb that it angered me sometimes. She seems like one of the stereotypical dumb blondes who are truly irritating and clueless about whatever that is taking place around them.

She also simply accepts the fact that she needs to take care of the household, which if i were her i would refrain from doing and would probably run away or something. Gem My impression of Gem was that i might associate with him more than any other character. He has a tough time revealing his feelings, which I do too. Jewel also seems to enjoy his mom a lot, most likely due to the fact that he feels separated in his household and feel as if he can just get close to his mother. Basically he is an only kid, like me and I sort off understand how he feels. Gem feels the very same about horses as i feel about working out.

Whenever i feel overloaded with feelings, exercising in the health club always helps, and Jewel does the very same with his horse. I liked Gem and his attributes right from the start. Throughout the book Gem is distant and somewhat done not like by his household, but the journey might not have been made without him. In two separate celebrations he risked his own life in order to conserve his moms casket. He is also picked on by Darl, however never ever go nuts and fights him or anything. Without Gem Anse would not have actually gotten his teeth either. Jewel is extremely different from the others when it comes to his family affairs.

He dislikes his household a lot and the only factor he does not leave is since of his intense love for his mother Addie. He hates his papa due to the fact that Anse attempted to trade the horse that Jewel worked very hard for a mule. He feels very remote form all of them. It is as if he can associate with the farm animals more than he can to his real family. In Jewels eyes his mom is the only family member that he has any love for. Gem is a complicated character. Although he does not understand how to show it, one of his redeeming qualities is his tremendous love that he has for his mother.

He loves her a lot that he decided to stick with the family he hates just to be able to be with his mom. He also risks his life two times saving his mothers coffin, revealing his love for her is strong even after her death. He also has an extreme passion for his animals. Like i said prior to his animals are more family than his actual family, and if it weren’t for this enthusiasm all the animals would have most likely died in the barn fire. Jewel and Addie have an extremely loving relationship. Even though Jewel never shows his love for her openly, Addie understand that Gem does enjoy her.

Jewel did no seem to alter much in throughout the book. He still had trouble revealing his emotions at the end and he still did not like his household. I like Gem. I feel as if I can connect to him on a deep level. I also like the way he has an immense love for Addie and the animals however has an issue revealing it, it reveals that even though others might not think he is a great individual, deep down inside he truly is. Anse I did not like Anse at the start of the book. He appeared very selfish and not appreciating his family. Whatever he did appeared to be in the benefit of himself and not appreciating the fate of his family.

He also waited a very long time to call a physician for Addie, which is odd because you would assume that you would call a doctor on the start of an illness and not when the person will pass away. Anse was one of my least preferred characters at the beginning along with Darl. Anse does not do much to assist in the book. He go’s in addition to the family to burry Addie, but just with the thought of getting brand-new teeth. I feel as if he could care less about where Addie was buried. He is extremely ineffective and selfish throughout the journey. And to make matters worse he remarries almost instantly after they bury Addie.

The only “excellent” thing he did was trading Gem’s horse for a mule to help the transport of Addie’s coffin. Revealing he had no emotional connections to her and was just with her due to the fact that it was what he had to do. He seems to not appreciate anybody but himself, and his actions throughout the book revealed simply that. The Family implied really little to Anse. He seemed to only care for himself and not for his household. Even his marital relationship to Addie appeared to be absolutely nothing more than living plans. He even remarried right after Addie was buried.

Addie has no excellent qualities, he is a self-centered and mean old guy. He is worthy of to live the rest of his old dog’s life alone. Anse had a really non caring relation with Addie. It was as if he were only in a relation for the advantage of having kids to assist work the farm. He might care less about Addie and her feelings. But that was all right because Addie did not care about Anse either. She seemed to be in it only for the stability of having a house, but soon regretting her choice to get wed and have kids. Neither of them seemed pleased in their relationship.

The only thing that changed about Anse was that he got brand-new teeth and remarried, however he continued to be an insensitive old wrinkled up dry man he was at the begging Anse was my least preferred character. He had no remorse for his dead spouse, and even though they’re relationship was not good, he might a minimum of have shown some regard for his dead partner. All he appreciated throughout the book was obtaining brand-new teeth. On numerous events he not did anything to help the household on their journey to burry Addie and simply sat and enjoyed as everybody else did all the work. He had no morals and i dislike him a lot.
