Othello’s Last Speech

In Othello’s last speech he is speaking to Lodovico, who will be bringing the news of what happened in Cyprus regarding Othello to Venice. Othello asks Lodovico to remain and hear what he needs to say, he thinks he should have to speak due to the fact that he has actually assisted the state of Venice in the past. He asks Lodovico not to speak of Othello as he actually is. He tells him not to minimize things and make them seem less serious then they are and not to exaggerate. Othello desires individuals in Venice to understand that he is someone who enjoyed to much, but was not sensible about it.

He desired them to understand he was not of envious nature, but once he was manipulated by Iago he ended up being baffled and worked himself into a frenzy. Othello was more vulnerable to adjustment since he relied on and liked so easily. He declares he is not a suspicious individual, however was wrought, pounded and formed by beating with a hammer. Othello says “Of one not easily jealous, however, being wrought,” (399 ). Iago worked and shaped Othello until he was just how he desired, simply as a blacksmith finishes with iron or silver posts.

Othello realises that all of the good things he has done do not matter any longer, because of the death of Desdemona. Although he knows this he still wants to be kept in mind as a briliant soldier who risked his life lot of times for Venice. He specifically speaks about when he remained in Aleppo, a Turish city, and found a “deadly Turk” beating a Venetian. Othello kills the Turk in order to save the Venetian, even though that criminal offense is punishable by death. Othello calls the Turk a “cirumcised pet dog” because Turks are muslims, and Muslim’s are circumcised.

Othello was a fine guy with a harsh fate. Had not been manipulated by others he would have lived an admirable life. He is sorry for many things in his life, though I don’t believe weding Desdemona is among those things. His choices were significantly effected by his feelings. He was blinded by Iago because he did not listen to his heart, and let his feelings get in the way. Othello’s gorgeous language and remorse in this speech make him seem nobel again. Although because he rejects the awful things he has actually done, and the role he played in Iago’s strategy he can not be totally forgiven.
