The Crucible: Although Abigail and the Girls Start the Disaster, Res

The Crucible: Although Abigail and The Girls Start The disaster, Obligation Lies With the entire Salem Community Although Abigail and the women initiate the tragedy, responsibility lies with the whole Salem neighborhood. Talk about. I do think that Abigail and the girls initiated the catastrophe, what with all their talk about spirits and the conjurance with the devil during the opening act. For one factor or another, it can be said that the blame for this disaster lies with the whole Salem community. But could this really be called a disaster?

In my opinion, if people get injured and the whole neighborhood breaks down– then it is a disaster. Several feelings and even specific characters are brought into the play and each one holds part of the blame– for that reason reducing the entire of the community and triggering individuals to turn against each other and all principles they once thought in. Abigail and the girls deny everything. Part od their rejection is accusation. By shifting the blame onto another person, they believe that they will not be held accountable for their own sins.

Abigail manipulates her way through the play, and even after Mary Warren admitted that the entire story was a pretense, Abigail continues controling the court room and the people within it with antics of? a wind, a cold wind’ and? Oh Heavenly Father, remove this shadow’. In the end she is determined to encourage the court that they were just involved with witchcraft because of Mary Warren, hoping a lot to conserve her own name. Denial in Salem is thought about an awful sin.

The narrow mindedness of the court possesses an unwritten law that if your name is highlighted within the court, with no questioning, you are presumed guily. Innocence is not taken into consideration, and just until the victim admits,, is the court persuaded they were right. There is no hearing for the victim, and if they are innocent, they have the choice of denial, and being hung or admitting an being thrown into jail. Danforth, the deputy guv, is so caught up in his own beliefs and value that he won’t listen to anything that he does not want to hear.

He is manipulated by Abigail, bu her innocent girl front by incredulously questioning Proctor? this kid would murder his other half?’ It is beyond his narrow comprehension that someone might be informing the reality. John Proctor stood up for his pride and concepts. It is apparent that he would rather die with a good name within Salem than live and understand that he had broken his own concepts and lost his pride. He thought that among his own community he would be lavelled untrustworthy and states? God does not require my name nailed upon the church! God sees my name, God understand how black my sins are”.

From these comments, we understand that John Proctor is an honest and trusting man who would do anything to save the name of himself, his family and his friends– even if it would conclude in his own death–? I have actually offered you my soul, leave me my name.’ Perhaps Proctor’s strong will to demonstration caused the whole catastrophe to continue for a longer amount of time. Maybe if he hadn’t engaged in adultry, he wouldn’t have felt nearly as guilty that he had to go and stand prior to the court for his wife. It might be said that he defended her to show that he still loved her and possibly to regain some her trust back.

The Proctor’s weren’t the only couple with the tragedy coming in between them. Thomas Putnam too was caught in secretly attempting to obtain the land and fight Giles’s accusation of Putnam eliminating his neighbours to get their land. Goody Putnam is maliciously implicating Tituba of murdering all her children. These infants at the time, were revealed still born, today that Tituba remains in the public eye because of being linked with Abigail and the starting of the disaster, she is blamed. Wild allegations are flying around Salem linking people to anything abnormal that has failed.

The absurd identifying of innocent people becomes an ongoing hazard to all within Salem. Francis Nurse is stunned that his other half, Rebecca– a pillar of the Salem community– has actually been named before the court by Abigail and the girls. In truth, the entire neighborhood is shocked when they hear the news of Rebecca Nurse being named. The act of people naming others, and then those others calling more individuals still, definantly had an effect on the disaster, dragging the whole thing out, much longer than it required to be. To prove that all these individuals were actually guilty likewise played a part in lengthening the disaster.

Herrick, Cheever and Danforth, all so filled with their own importance and strictness of the court–? the law binds me?. I can not budge’– ask concern after question to each victim until finally the accused breaks down and confesses to conserve their own lives. Even Hale who feels for the victims towards completion, knows the strictness of the court,? thought our hearts break, we can not flinch, these are brand-new times’. In conclusion, throughout the book, everybody in Salem wanted the entire tragedy to end, however one way or another, nearly everybody within the neighborhood had a method of making the tragedy continue on longer than it needed to be.
